Abdominal ultrasound was performed on a 49 year old female as part of routine medical check up. There is a 2cm mass at the mid-pole of left kidney. The mass has inhomogenous echotexture with echogenic areas within it. It causes a bulge in the outline of the left kidney. The rest of left kidney and KUB tract are normal.
Differential diagnosis would be hypernephroma or hypertrophied Column of Bertin. Given her age, the former ought to be excluded.
She was referred to a Urologist for further evaluation.
